Episode 62: A TARDIS Full of Bras (Sweet Gender Flips)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 61: A TARDIS Full of Bras (Sweet Gender Flips)

About 18 months ago, Erin didn’t like the idea of a female Doctor, despite being generally pro-badass-female-characters. Well, we have a new Doctor incoming, and she’s got boobs. We unpack some of the implications of this, for ourselves as fans as well as on the whole, and also take a deeper look at the relationships between past Doctors and their companions and how  having a female Doctor might solve some of the problems we’ve seen in the past (and what new problems could now have an opportunity to arise).

Also, we talk about some other gender flips (“oh shit, sweet flips”) in mainstream media, how they have worked, and whether they have worked.

Also also, sorry-not-sorry for getting that song stuck in your head. Erin’s been singing it for three days now.

Episode 61: Hashtag Narcissism (Sorting Hat Chats)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 61: Hashtag Narcissism (Sorting Hat Chats)

Hey, everyone! This week, we check out the website Sorting Hat Chats and take a really deep and serious look at who we are and what that says about which Hogwarts house we would end up in (spoiler: one of us is not who we all thought he was!). Erin says “deep dive” a lot. Like, so many times that listening back through this to edit it, she just really wants to go stab Past Erin in the neck.

Also, and this is very important: we shout-out Adam from So That’s How It Ends, but Erin is an idiot and gets the name of his podcast wrong. We’ll fix that next week in NCCs, but wanted to fix it here too. Sorry, Adam. Erin is an idiot.

Episode 60: Befilm I Fall (“Before I Fall”, Part 2)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 60: Befilm I Fall (“Before I Fall”, Part 2)

Hey, everyone! This week we continue our deep dive into “Before I Fall”, this time watching the recent movie. Spoiler alert: The book was better.

Trigger warning for some discussion of teen death, including suicide.

Thank you to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?” and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our cover art.

Episode 59: Bookfore I Fall (“Before I Fall”, Part 1)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 59: Bookfore I Fall (“Before I Fall”, Part 1)

Hey, everyone. This week, we read the 2010 novel “Before I Fall” by Lauren Oliver as the first of a two-part series. The book is basically “Groundhog Day, Teen Edition”, but better (question mark?). It has its problems, sure, but Andie McDowell ain’t one of ’em.

Trigger warning for some discussion of teen death, including suicide.

Episode 58: James and Erin Write A Movie (“Time Travel Love Song”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 58: James and Erin Write A Movie (“Time Travel Love Song”)

Hey, everyone! From the weirdos who brought you “Redo Year’s Eve 1” and “How To Make Friends And Resurrect Your Pets”, a new romantic comedy starring some people who are not named Steve! “Time Travel Love Song” is about, well, time travel. And love. And songs. And text-to-speech programs?

Episode 56: Hi, Marc! (Again!) (OCD and Potpourri)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 56: Hi, Marc! (Again!) (OCD and Potpourri)

Hey, everyone! We sat down with Our Friend Marc again for a long and lovely conversation about obsessive-compulsive disorder and how it affects one’s approach to pop culture and fandom. We hit on a lot of topics during this chat, but in the end Marc ties it all up for us.

Episode 55: Smash That Like Button (YouTube)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 55: Smash That Like Button (YouTube)

Hey, everyone! This week we have a sleeper topic; one of those things that we probably should have talked about before now but for whatever reason we haven’t. But we promise we stay WAY more on topic this time than when we covered Firefly. (Mostly because Erin edited out the tangents for a future outtakes episode.) (You’re welcome.) Today we discuss YouTube–how our use of it has changed over the years, what we’re currently using it for, and how the next generation uses it. (Spoiler alert: Kids like weird stuff.)

Episode 54: A Different Kind of TV Death (TV Cancellations)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 54: A Different Kind of TV Death (TV Cancellations)

Hey, everyone! This week we go back to basics–no guests this time, just James and Erin and some articles James found online that we sort of talk about but not really because we are too busy talking about other things, like how Saved By The Bell: The College Years was just flat-out wrong about how college works and we’re still a little bitter about it.

Thank you to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?” and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our cover art.

Episode 53: Hi, Mary! (Whisk[e]y Business)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 53: Hi, Mary! (Whisk[e]y Business)

Hey, everyone! We deviate a bit from our standard fare this week as we are joined by Mary from Hungry Hungry Hip Girls, who guides Erin through a whisk(e)y tasting and James through a whisk(e)y smelling, as James rightfully decided that drinking a bunch of whiskey at 9 pm on a Wednesday was maybe not the best idea. Additional talking points include apples vs. tomatoes, and some bizarre anime porn thing Mary stumbled upon.

Episode 52: Hi, Andy! (Comics)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 52: Hi, Andy! (Comics)

Hey, everyone! This week we are joined by longtime friend of James and the show, Andy! Hi, Andy! Andy graciously invited us into his home to talk comics and Torg memes, and to let Erin pet his cats, Olive and Feta, who are very soft and very, very fat (i.e., the best kind of cats).

Episode 51: Mostly-Seeing Eye (Outtakes, Volume 3)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 51: Mostly-Seeing Eye (Outtakes, Volume 3)

Hey, everyone! James was out of town earlier this week so rather than force him to record while recovering from a very long road trip, we decided to dust off some old favorites that we picked up off the cutting room floor. Sometimes, we just get way, way too off-topic and just have to pull stuff form the main episode, but we like it too much to set it on fire.

Thank you to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?” and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our cover art.

Episode 50: The End?…Turn To Page 4 (Choose Your Own Adventure)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 50: The End?…Turn To Page 4 (Choose Your Own Adventure)

Hey, everyone!

That’s all I’m going to say, because you should go into this with zero expectations…much like a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

Episode 49: Hi, Lucy! (13 Reasons Why)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 49: Hi, Lucy! (13 Reasons Why)

Hey, everyone! This week, the amazing Lucy from Midpoint Podcast joins us to discuss the current Netflix phenomenon “13 Reasons Why”. There will be spoilers. Trigger warning: This episode discusses teen suicide and sexual assault, so if that’s not something you’re up for listening to, we understand and will be back next week with something a little lighter.

Thank you to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?” and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our cover art.

Episode 48: The Creativity Is In The J (Firefly/Joss Whedon)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 48: The Creativity Is In The J (Firefly/Joss Whedon)

Hey, everyone! This week we go way back to the thing that, frankly, is probably the main reason we’re all here. Without Firefly, Erin wouldn’t be the nerd that she is today, and this podcast very well may not exist. Thanks, Joss Whedon!

Thanks also to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?”, and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our cover art.

Episode 47: Hi, Nar! (Sherlock)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 47: Hi, Nar! (Sherlock)

Hey, everyone! This week we have a special guest, Papa Narwhals from Pokemon Go Radio! Erin has been listening to his show for some time now and tweeting at him incessantly until he responds, and she’s like a stray kitten–he gave her attention and now he can’t get rid of her. Nar joins us this week to discuss BBC’s Sherlock (be prepared for spoilers), but not until after we get him onboard the Stephen King train.

Thanks as always to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”, and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our logo. You can find Nar on twitter @pgr_papanarwhal.

Episode 45: That Thing The Hammerhead Does (Female Leads and Love Interests)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 45: That Thing The Hammerhead Does (Female Leads and Love Interests)

Hey, everyone! This week we revisit the topic of female leads, particularly in movies. What makes them work or not work? Is Faye from That Thing You Do! a good female love interest, or is she basically just a prop in the story of Guy Patterson’s Rise To Fame?

We also fall down a rabbit hole of bad were-animal erotica. There is no ladder down here, folks. Someone please save us.

Thanks to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”, as well as to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our most awesome logo.

Episode 44: There’s a Lemon Behind That Rock! (The Simpsons)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 44: There’s a Lemon Behind That Rock! (The Simpsons)

Hey, everyone! This week we are talking about possibly the only thing James is more obsessed with than charts: The Simpsons. He and Andy (hi, Andy!) assigned Erin two episodes to watch, as she is relatively unfamiliar with the show, but of course we go off-book and talk about more than just those two episodes. Have you met us? We talk a lot.

Thanks as always to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?” and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our awesome art.

Episode 43: Erin Plays Matchmaker; James Likes Charts (Music Charts And Fire Emblem)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 43: Erin Plays Matchmaker; James Likes Charts (Music Charts And Fire Emblem)

Hey, everyone! First up: we’re still having audio issues so there’s some static and weird cuts in this episode; also, Erin’s dog tries to sabotage us by walking through the cords halfway through the episode. We apologize and will hopefully have all the sound stuff fixed by next week, even if it means going back to the old Blue Snowball mic instead of our new fancy individual mics. Thanks for your patience as we figure out what the hell we’re doing with sound.

This week we have a mixed episode for you. Erin gushes about video game romances, and James gushes about his love of charts and spreadsheets and countdowns. We’re all just full of love this week, folks! Except for our sound equipment. No love for our sound equipment. It can all just…fade away.

Episode 42: Don’t Do A Hit (MBMBaM Show)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 42: Don’t Do A Hit (MBMBaM Show)

Hey, everyone! Have you ever wondered if it’s a good idea to pad your resume, and if so, how to do it in a way that won’t get you called out? Have you ever wondered what it’s like to have a tarantula crawl across your hand? What about how to get into a secret society?

Well, we don’t have the answers for you…but the McElroy brothers do, and they have a TV show to tell you all about it. And we have a podcast to tell you all about their TV show. Please enjoy it…won’t you?

Episode 41: Slideshow (Recapping Lost Episodes)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 41: Slideshow (Recapping Lost Episodes)

Hey, everyone! We’ve had some audio issues lately, and have lost a couple of really good episodes, so this week we go back and briefly recap those. Think of it like a slideshow, snippets of all the episodes you’ll never get to hear because technology hates us.

Thanks as always to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”, and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem on Twitter) for our most excellent logo.

Episode 40: Tapping Frustles (“Newsies: The Movie: The Musical: The Movie”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 40: Tapping Frustles (“Newsies: The Movie: The Musical: The Movie”)

Hey, everyone! Sorry we’re late this week; due to audio issues, we lost the episode we’d originally planned to post, so you get this one, which we recorded just last night!

We went to see a Broadway production of “Newsies” at the movie theatre (yup), and it was very different from the movie we grew up with! We do not refrain from spoilers in this episode, so if you have plans to see it yourself and want to go in with no knowledge of what was different and what stayed the same, hold off on this episode until after you’ve seen it.

Thanks to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”, and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem on Twitter) for our awesome new logo, which may or may not have uploaded into iTunes and which you may or may not be looking at right now!

Episode 39: Is That a Spine? (Video Games)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 39: Is That a Spine? (Video Games)

Hey, everyone! Erin’s been playing Fire Emblem Heroes and as we all know, when Erin decides she’s excited about something, it’s all she can talk about. So this week we discuss video games! But not just the mainstream ones. Sure, we touch on your Mortal Kombats, your Mario Partys, your Call of Dutys. But we also talk about the original Gameboy, which was the handheld game equivalent of the Zack Morris phone; we talk about a revolutionary war video game that Erin has already forgotten the name of even though she finished editing this episode not five minutes ago; and obscure Japanese choose-your-own-romantic-adventure mobile games. Also, James tells us about the time he invented the Internet.

Episode 38: An Actually Varied Variety Hour (Podcasts Update)

Episode 38: An Actually Varied Variety Hour (Podcasts Update)

Hey, everyone! This week we dive back into our podcast apps and discuss what we’ve been listening to since the last time we talked about what podcasts we listen to–and this time some of Erin’s podcasts are NOT hosted by McElroys!

Thanks to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 37: Bug In a Jar (“Waxwork II: Lost In Time”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 37: Bug In a Jar (“Waxwork II: Lost In Time”)

Hey, everyone! You know when you’re having a meal with someone and they say, “Oh my God, this is TERRIBLE, here, try it”? Well, that’s basically what we are doing to you this week, because we watched “Waxwork II: Lost In Time” and man, was it terrible; here, listen to us talk about it!

If ever there was an episode that brought the not-so-pop-culture to Unabashedly Obsessed, this is it. It’s a bad, BAD movie. But delightfully so? Sort of?

The theme song is a real gem, and we found a YouTube link of it for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5o8WBbUg4E

You’re welcome?

Thanks to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?”, which is a much better song than “Bug In a Jar”.

Episode 36: James and Erin Write a Movie (“Redo Year’s Eve 1”)

Hey, everyone! Did you ever wish you could go back in time over and over and over again until you manage to right every tiny wrong throughout your day, and also that you and everyone around you was named Steve? Well then boy, are you gonna love this movie.

Episode 35: Footholds For Your Teeth (“Landline” by Rainbow Rowell)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 35: Footholds For Your Teeth (“Landline” by Rainbow Rowell)

Hey everyone! We read a book! That isn’t by Stephen King! But it does involve time travel. (Even though we are not a time travel podcast.) This week we delve into Rainbow Rowell’s fourth book, “Landline”. What works? What doesn’t? Which character is the worst character, not just in this book but also possibly ever? How, exactly, does one use another person’s dimples as footholds for one’s teeth during a makeout session?

Episode 34: Happy Brithday, Kiristy Swanson (Books/TV/Movie Adaptations)

Hey, everyone! Happy 2017! You know what’s great? When they take your favorite book/TV show/movie and turn it into a really good book/TV show/movie. You know what’s not great? When they turn it into a bad one.

Today we talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly adaptations of books to TV, books to movies, movies to TV, movies to books, TV to movies, and everything in between.

Episode 33: Definitely Not Peen Scene (Favorite Books of 2016)

Episode 33: Definitely Not Peen Scene (Favorite Books of 2016)

Hey, everyone, and welcome to our final episode of 2016! In general, this year should never have happened, but some good things did come out of it: we read some really good books! And some of them weren’t even by Stephen King! Allow us to tell you about them!

Episode 32: Yippee-Kay-Yule (Christmas (and Action, Apparently?) Movies)

Episode 32: Yippee-Kay-Yule (Christmas (and Action, Apparently?) Movies)

Hey, everyone! It’s the most wonderful time of the year–time for us to wax poetic about our favorite holiday (and not-so-holiday) movies, as well as Alan Rickman and the Freemans (Morgan and Martin). We also want to wish all of our listeners a happy holidays, whatever your holiday of choice may be–Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Candlenights, Yule, whatever you celebrate, we hope it’s a good one and that no one tries to blow up a building with you in it.

Episode 31: 2 Tangential 4 Television (Outtakes)

Episode 31: 2 Tangential 4 Television (Outtakes 2)

Hey, everyone! As you know, we talk a lot, and sometimes we get off on tangents that we decide don’t really fit in with the main episode, but we still like the chat and don’t want to totally toss it. And thus, our outtakes episodes are born.

Rescued from the cutting room floor: casting a “Somewhere In Time” remake; Erin dreams the first half of Cloud Atlas, starring Lance Bass and Anna Kendrick; Theo Rossi is super great; pop-punk, pop-PUNK, and POP-punk; what does a Snorlax feel like?; baby naming.

Episode 30: Night Shift Gets Cake (“Safety Not Guaranteed”)

Episode 30: Night Shift Gets Cake (“Safety Not Guaranteed”)

Hey, everyone! This week we watched the movie “Safety Not Guaranteed”, and tried to make sense of time travel once again. Side points: That scene in “Labyrinth” where Sarah tries to figure out which door to go through; a short story James has to go on another side point to explain; Erin draws a picture.

Episode 29: It’s a Patriarchy, Get Used To It (Gilmore Girls Revival–SPOILERS)

Episode 29: It’s a Patriarchy, Get Used To It (Gilmore Girls Revival–SPOILERS)

Hey, everyone! This week we are talking about the only thing anyone has talked about this week–the Gilmore Girls Revival. One of us is a longtime fan of the show; the other has never seen it before but watched the revival anyway even though that breaks his Cardinal Rule Of Watching Things. Spoiler alert: This episode is full of spoilers.

Episode 28: Rac Efron (THanksgiving)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 28: Rac Efron (THanksgiving)

Hey, everyone! It only seems right to post our THanksgiving episode a day early, ON THanksgiving, so you can listen to us while you drive over to your in-laws’ house for turkey. You’re hungry for this one, we know it. And if you weren’t hungry when you started, you will be by the end, because we just sit and talk about food for the better part of an hour.

Also discussed: Stuff we watch on TV at THanksgiving, Zac Efron’s little brother’s acting career, and the death of Vine and it’s impact on horses. Erin has a laughing fit.

We are THankful to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 27: Fifteentuplets (Orphan Black)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 27: Fifteentuplets (Orphan Black)

Hey everyone! Today we’re gonna talk to you about Orphan Black, and we’ll do our best to avoid any major end-of-season 4 spoilers (mostly because Erin isn’t caught up yet so she can’t speak to anything after episode 5) but there are some spoilers for the previous seasons. So if you haven’t watched Orphan Black yet, go do that and then listen to this. (Seriously, Orphan Black is really good, go watch it. We’ll wait.) And we also talk about some other stuff including the comic series Saga and Tana French novels, because, well, come on, you’ve listened to us before. We can’t stay on topic for more than a few minutes.

Episode 26: The Good, the Bad, and the REALLY Bad (Fanfiction)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 26: The Good, the Bad, and the REALLY Bad (Fanfiction)

Hey, everyone! We know it’s Election Week and people are feeling things. We address that at the top of the episode, but because we aren’t a political show and a lot of us could use some distraction right now, we bring you instead a scintillating discussion of fanfiction!

Episode 25: Erin Needs a New Boyfriend (TV Deaths)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 25: Erin Needs a New Boyfriend (TV Deaths)

Hey everyone! This one is shorter than normal because our topic for today was meant to be a quick comment, but we aren’t very good at that and ended up having enough to make a whole episode out of.

There’s a spoiler warning at the top of the episode, but just in case: there are season 7 “The Walking Dead” premiere spoilers, as well as some death-spoilers from “Dexter”. So, you know, avoid this episode if you don’t want those.

Episode 24: BOO! (Scary Movies)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 24: BOO! (Scary Movies)

Hey, everyone! In honor of All Hallows Eve, we talk about our favorite and least favorite scary movies, what does and doesn’t spook us, and we make some recommendations for you, the listener…all of which you’ve probably already seen but shhhhhh just pretend you haven’t.

Episode 23: The Secret (of Time Travel) (“Somewhere In Time”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 23: The Secret (of Time Travel) (“Somewhere In Time”)

Hey, everyone! This week, James and Erin watch the 1980 cinematic masterpiece “Somewhere In Time”, starring Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve. Once you get past how sad it is that Christopher Reeve died, it’s actually a pretty good movie. Well, no, it isn’t, it’s a terrible movie. But it’s a really good terrible movie. You know what? Just go watch it, you’ll see what we mean.

Episode 22: Big Important Media (Stephen King at the National Book Festival)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 22: Big Important Media (Stephen King at the National Book Festival)

Hey, everyone! A couple weeks ago James and Erin got media passes to the National Book Festival, where Stephen King was presenting. Tickets to his event were gone in seconds, but we are Big Important Media and we can make things happen! (As long as we hound people obsessively for two straight weeks until they give us what we want just to shut us up.)

You can watch Mr. King’s talk here: https://www.facebook.com/libraryofcongress/videos/10153921112813059/

Episode 21: B-I-N-G-ObGyn (Outtakes)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 21: B-I-N-G-ObGyn (Outtakes)

Hey everyone! Erin has been in Scotland for the past week so we weren’t able to record a brand-new episode for you, but that’s okay, because we still put together an episode for you! It’s shorter than usual and is made up of stuff we had to cut from other episodes to keep them from going too obscenely long. Or stuff that was so not relevant to the topic at hand and was easy to cut, so we did. Or, in one case, the only good parts of an otherwise not-very-good episode, which was when we learned that trying to record while in a car doesn’t really work for us. Apologies for the audio on those parts, cars are noisy. (Also apologies again for Erin’s weird intro audio, recording separately is not as awesome as recording together.)

Thanks to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 20: Betdie (Fall)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 20: Betdie (Fall)

Hey everyone! Erin’s audio is weird in the intro because we had to record a super-timely NCC over the phone, but we promise it’s just that one little bit, it gets better.

We like fall, and now it is technically fall (thanks, Autumn Equinox!), and we’re going to talk about fall. Bonus appearance by Torg the Dog, who is fickle and thinks James is a loser until James is holding a pizza roll, at which point he thinks James is the best person ever. Also, that weird buzzing sound you hear early on in the episode? That’s Torg snoring and there was no way to edit around it.

Episode 19: James and Erin Write A Movie (How To Make Friends and Resurrect Your Pets)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 19: James and Erin Write A Movie (How To Make Friends and Resurrect Your Pets)

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since we wrote a movie, and boy do we have a good one this time. It’s a coming-of-age story about bubbles and chinchillas, and Derek is back and he’s doing it, guys!

Special thanks to Emily R. for our title, and to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 18: Fandon Brandon ((Mostly) John Hughes Movies)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 18: Fandon Brandon ((Mostly) John Hughes Movies)

Hey, everyone! (Not everybody. Everyone.) This week we planned to talk about 80s movies, but then that pretty much turned into just John Hughes movies, and then we talked about some other movies that are not John Hughes movies, nor are they 80s movies. Because of course we do. Also, we talk about boobs a lot.

As a special bonus, we get to hear (very briefly) from BOTH of the Kristens in James’s life!

As always, epic thanks go out to Jamie Chahine for our epically amazing theme songs, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 17: Canned Tuna Fish and Kirsty Swanson (Britney Spears(?), Music, and (Two Specific) Stephen King Books)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 17: Canned Tuna Fish and Kirsty Swanson (Britney Spears(?), Music, and (Two Specific) Stephen King Books)

Hey everyone! James and Erin have finally figured out what their most marketable skill as podcasters is, and it’s “getting off on tangents not remotely related to the topic they’ve chosen to discuss”. For example, today’s talking points are: Kristy Swanson vs. Kirsty Swanson; canned tuna fish; and music (specifically, Britney Spears music). The topic they are SUPPOSED to be talking about (and eventually get around to) is “Books They Are Currently Reading; Specifically, The Two Stephen King Books They Are Currently Reading.” Enjoy! (Spoiler Warning: There’s discussion of “Rose Madder” and “The Gunslinger”, with some minor spoilers, mostly of the latter.

Thank you as always to Jamie Chahine for our most excellent theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 16: Not About Harry Potter! (…much.) (Tabletop Games)

This time, we delve shallowly (because, you know, time constraints and stuff) into two games we really super love: Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons. One of us has never played Magic and the other has never played D&D, so this is sort of an old-school “you talk, then I talk” format. (Which we tried in the first episode and it ended up being just Erin talking and we never got to talk about James’s love of Magic. But now we do!)

Thanks as always to the ever-wonderful Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 15: Accio Accolades! (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 15: Accio Accolades! (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) (SPOILERS ABOUND!)

Hey, everyone! Um, If you don’t want spoilers for “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”, don’t listen to this episode. No, really. We talk about ALL THE THINGS and if you listen and then get mad that we spoiled it, that’s on you, not us.

Unrelated, at the time of this posting, Anna Kendrick has still not taken Erin up on her offer of wine and best friendship, but the hope is still there that we can make the movie “Mistery” happen. Just gotta convince James to shed any fears he has of one of his idols possibly thinking he’s a stalker. It’s all right. Erin’s working on it.

Thanks as always to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 14: Oh, Jeff Daniels (Harry Potter and MagiQuest)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 14: Oh, Jeff Daniels (Harry Potter and MagiQuest)

Hey, everyone! Did you know that Jeff Daniels is actually made of CGI?

This week we talk a lot about Jeff Daniels, who has nothing to do with our actual topic. The iTunes review buzzword is “wand”, and today the F stands for Fluppy Dogs, an obscure 80s cartoon that no one but Erin and some random person with a YouTube account seems to remember existed.

Episode 13: The Southern Isles Candidate (Fan Theories)

Episode 13: The Southern Isles Candidate (Fan Theories)

Hey everyone! In this episode we discuss many of our favorite fan theories! We get into Frozen, Back to the Future, Disney Crossovers, 90’s Television Crossovers,  and The Berenst(a/e)in Bears.

Thanks as ALWAYS to Jamie Chahine for his song “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?” which we use as our theme song! It never stops rocking.

Episode 12: You Must Apprehend All The Creatures (Pokemon Go)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 12: You Must Apprehend All The Creatures (Pokemon Go)

Hey, everyone! This is a very special episode, as we have our first remote segment! Which was promptly interrupted by a very nice and very persistent woman who wanted us to teach her, “What is a Pokemon and how do I play it?”

Erin would like it on record that in the two weeks since we recorded this episode, she has reached Level 21, caught a wild Pikachu, and hatched a better-CP Pikachu. She has named her Pikachu “My Precious”, and is still super into the game. She is now on a mission to apprehend all the creatures.

Episode 11.5: Accidental Porpoising (“Hamilton” NCCs, Now With Edits!)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 11.5: Accidental Porpoising (“Hamilton” NCCs, Now With Edits!)

Hey everyone! Remember that time that Erin spent hours editing this episode, only for Audacity to ignore all her edits and save the raw file as an MP3, and she didn’t realize it so she posted it and then had to take it down and re-edit?

No? Good. Pretend that never happened and this is what we posted all along.

We had a lot of No-Context Corrections (NCCs) from our “Hamilton” episode…enough to make a whole episode out of them. A whole episode that both starts and ends with Melissa McCarthy, who has nothing to do with “Hamilton”. But you know us. That’s how we roll.

Special thanks to Jamie Chahine for the use of our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?”

Oops. (An explanation.)

Apologies to anyone wondering where this past week’s post went. Apparently when Erin converted the edited file to MP3, her computer heard “Please revert this to the raw file, convert it to MP3, and then delete the edited version forever”. Or at least, that’s what appears to have happened. She’s working on re-editing now, please hold. *elevator music*

Episode 11: Nunabashedly Obsessed (“Hamilton” and “RENT”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 11: Nunabashedly Obsessed (“Hamilton” and “RENT”)

Hey, everyone! Today we celebrate James’s birthday, and tackle the hard-hitting questions on everyone’s mind: How does Periscope work? How Does “Hamilton” compare to “RENT”? Just how smart IS Lin-Manuel Miranda? Was Alexander Hamilton the Kanye West of his time? Is waxing your ears a good idea, or a bad one?

Today’s review buzzword is “nun”, as James’s autocorrect seems to think he’s more into “Sister Act” than he actually is.

As always, special thanks to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 10: Hi, Marc! (Movies, Collections, and Bad Dates)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 10: Hi, Marc! (Movies, Collections, and Bad Dates)

It’s a long one but a good one! James’s Friend Marc joins us for a lively discussion of movies, things we’ve collected in our lives, and our worst/most awkward dates. (Erin feels it important to note that at the time of this writing, Marc has still not rated or reviewed us on iTunes.)

Today the “F” stands for Failure (specifically Marc’s, to post a review) and the review buzzword is “engage”.

Episode 9: Rouglas the Bear (Summer)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 9: Rouglas the Bear (Summer)

Hey everyone! This week we discuss summer: what we like about it, what we hate about it (HUMIDITYYYYYYYY), other things about (and not about) it. We also talk about recording a Vine during an episode that Erin’s computer deleted, so if you have no idea what we’re talking about, that’s why!

Episode 8: The Fan Edition (Musical Numbers in Movies)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 8: The Fan Edition (Musical Numbers in Movies)

Hey everyone, and welcome to another episode of Unabashedly Obsessed. This week, we discuss one of James’s favorite things ever–musical performances in movies, not to be confused with movies that are musicals. Under discussion are That Thing You Do!, Pitch Perfect (1 and 2), Crossroads, and Empire Records. If you haven’t seen Crossroads, get on Netflix and watch it RIGHT NOW because Erin says to.

Episode 7: Banana Fanna Fo Fodcast (TV)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 7: Banana Fanna Fo Fodcast (TV)

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another episode of Unabashedly Obsessed. This time, we talk about Stephen King (again) (because he’s the best), and television. James hates spoilers (no, really, he REALLY hates spoilers) and Erin creates a new reality show.

Episode 6B: Monkey Whistle (Teen Music)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 6B: Monkey Whistle (Teen Music)

In the second and final (?) installment of the Monkey Whistle series, we discuss music that makes us feel like adolescents again. Boy bands, pop punk, and…yeah, that’s all we’ve got.

The vox.com article we discuss can be found here: http://www.vox.com/2016/4/18/11384118/larry-stylinson-one-direction-conspiracy-theory

Episode 6A: James and Erin Write a Movie (Sweet Action)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 6A: James and Erin Write a Movie (Sweet Action)

Our sixth episode was so long we opted to split it into two episodes. We seriously underestimate our ability to talk.

In Episode 6 part A, James and Erin Write a Movie! Also, Erin says “porno” a lot, and accidentally uses her sultry voice in the intro.

Episode 5: Potpourri (Potpourri)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 5: Potpourri (Potpourri)

What’s that, you ask? Can Erin and James stay on topic? Not today we can’t. In this episode, we just ramble. I mean, it’s good rambling, but we don’t even come close to the theme we’d initially planned on discussing. But you know, sometimes it’s important to know when to throw your plans out the window and just talk about home fragrance and why you shouldn’t eat it.

Episode 4: Erin’s McElroy Non-Variety Hour (Podcasts)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 4: Erin’s McElroy Non-Variety Hour (Podcasts)

Hey, everyone! Welcome back to another episode of Unabashedly Obsessed! In this one we get real meta–it’s a podcast about podcasts. James likes music podcasts. Erin likes podcasts by the McElroy brothers. We eat some Skittles. Erin says “okay” a lot. James’s daughter came downstairs to discuss how not-sleepy she was, but don’t worry, we edited that part out.

Episode 3.5: Zombie Fan Mail

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 3.5: Zombie Fan Mail

In this mini-episode, we respond to our first fan mail, furthering our discussion about zombies. James talks super fast to make sure he gets to say everything he wants to within the 20-minute time limit we set for ourselves. Erin continues to hone her Radio D voice.

Episode 3: Stephen King : Sparkles : Quantum Leap (Time Travel)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 3: Stephen King : Sparkles : Quantum Leap (Time Travel)

In this episode you’ll learn why our Facebook group’s logo/icon/avatar (seriously, what do you call those things?) is the horse, and are let in on one of our favorite inside jokes to date. (Which is saying something, because we’ve got almost 20 years’ [holy cats that’s a lot of years] worth of inside jokes.) We also talk about time travel and stuff.

Episode 2: BAHDUMBUM (Doctor Who)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 2: BAHDUMBUM (Doctor Who)

Hey everyone! This week we discuss a mutual favorite TV show: “Doctor Who”. Find out who James’s favorite character is, how Erin feels about the idea of a female Doctor, and which villain we feel is The Absolute Worst Ever. (Also which companion we feel is The Absolute Worst Ever.)

As before, thanks to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 1: Target Brand Flamethrowers (Zombies)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 1: Target Brand Flamethrowers (Zombies)

Hey everyone! We finally (FINALLY) edited our first episode! Here it is!

We recorded this one in Erin’s kitchen, which has a nice echo to it that we didn’t realize till after the fact, so we won’t be doing that again. Probably.

We also had to do a pre-intro and a post-outro because we like to make things hard on ourselves. Hey, we started recording this show back in September. A lot has happened since then, and we had to account for it all.

We really hope you all enjoy this episode and stick around for the ones to come in the future, as we find our stride and start streamlining our recording process a little bit more.

Special thanks to Jamie Chahine for the use of our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?”

We’re Unabashedly Obsessed!

We’ve got to get it off our chests. Please, sit there and be quiet.

Hey, everyone! We are Erin and James, and we are Unabashedly Obsessed, the podcast that has been a work in progress since September 2015 and as of today still has yet to be published! (We like to slow roll things. Build the suspense. Make you shiver with antici…

…pation.)

Mostly, we talk about whatever we feel like talking about. Like zombies! And Stephen King! And horses!

We also have bits! Like our No Context Corrections, and a thing we start trying about five episodes in called James and Erin Write a Movie. Sometimes we try to dissect our dreams. We often talk about books, time travel, and Doctor Who. “Often” as in “I’m pretty sure we haven’t had a single episode yet where we don’t talk about books and/or time travel and/or Doctor Who.”

One day, we’ll get these episodes we’ve recorded edited and theme songed and published. And boy, will that be a great day for everyone.
